Critic/Winery Review
"A medium-bodied wine that spills forth with lively aromas of fresh strawberries and pomegranates, with lovely floral notes. Bright fruit flavors of raspberry and cherry are framed by a crisp, balanced acidity that unfolds into a smooth, elegant finish. Enjoy its fresh fruit pleasures with lightly cooked salmon or tuna, fish tacos, salads, an array of cheeses, or all on its own as an afternoon aperitif (Yiannis Wine)."
References from Wine Folly
Pinot Noir is often described as a light-bodied red wine with flavors of cherry, raspberry, clove, and vanilla (Wine Folly, pg. 150). The wine's versatility makes it a great pairing with dishes like duck, chicken, pork, and mushrooms. In warmer Californian climates, the wine tends to be riper, while cooler climates bring out more tart characteristics. The bold, juicy red fruit flavors are often accompanied by spice and vanilla. Additionally, flavors of red cherry, raspberry, allspice, Darjeeling tea, and vanilla are frequently noted in Pinot Noir Rosé (Wine Folly, pg. 294).
My Review
This wine was very light and dry, with dominant flavors of raspberries and strawberries. I didn’t pick up the deeper notes mentioned in Wine Folly such as clove or mushrooms. It was also quite sweet, with a bitterness at the end. The acidity was noticeable and the wine lacked structure in its overall taste. While it was refreshing, I found it to be a bit too sweet and more unbalanced than other rosé wine that I've had in the past. I did not drink this wine with any food, and I think pairing it with a light Italian dish could help mellow the acidity and balance it better.
